Welcome to My Online Portfolio!
The commencement of my academic/teaching career has been the past five years as faculty at Minnesota State University Moorhead. My three primary duties have been teaching, advising and supervising field experiences.
I bring a wealth of "real life" experiences into the classroom bringing the textbook alive mixing theoretical application and pragmatic teaching. For example, in the Counseling Children, Adolescents and their Families class we not only discuss theories but also apply this to play activities with these populations and learn from each other through vibrant, lively discussions.
After I received my bachelor's degree I worked in Residential Life in Student Affairs at Concordia College as a hall director for three years. I continued my professional career as a 7-12 grade licensed school counselor at Lake Park-Audubon High School for two years after receiving my master's degree in school counseling from North Dakota State University. For six years I worked in the Moorhead Public School District as a licensed school counselor at S.G. Reinertsen Elementary School. My teaching interests include school counseling, counseling theory, counseling skills, group counseling and internship.
My research interests include the need for school counselors in Minnesota, the needs of rural school counseling, growing concern of mental health needs among school-age children, and technology in counseling. I am an active member of several professional counseling organizations and enjoy networking with colleagues to learn cutting edge approaches to counseling and counselor education.
When not working, I enjoy running, biking, camping, spending time at the lake, traveling, and spending time with my two daughters, son and husband.
